My name is Jason Lee Schumacher, but most people know me simply as "Schu". I am born and raised a Kasnsan, currently residing in my hometown of Hays, KS. I am often asked how I got into live and studio music production, and I guess it is a pretty common tale for this industry.

Growing up, I was surrounded by music. My father was a music major and middle school band director, as well as lead man for a dance band on weekends. At the age of 5, I was given a pair of drumsticks and began my classical training as percussionist.
By age 11 Iwas consistently winning drum contests around the state, and began playing in my father's band. It was here I started learning not only the fundamentals of sound and signal path, but what it meant to be a member of a crew.

When I graduated high school, I attended Kansas State University and studied Mass Communication and Advertising, all the while playing in several local and regional bands of all genres. With the limited resources available to record and make records, I built my first of several recording studios, called "The Schudio."
While originally only intended for recording my own projects, word spread quickly and soon I was helping artists from around the state put their sound on tape, which allowed me to expand and build bigger and better eqipped recording spaces, as well as sharpen my skills.
In 2015, in-between careers and not positive what I wanted to do, I reached out to the owner of a notable production company in Kansas to see if he needed any help. It just so happened they did and the next thing I know, I am traveling around the country setting up stages, teching backline, and eventually, mixing shows. This is where I fell in love with live sound.

2019 marked a year of difficulty for both myself and the industry in general. I was injured while on a job site and unable to work, and only a month later, Covid hit. With the fait of the industry in question, and most owners fearful of hiring techs, my options were limited. I knew I had the necessary skills to work in this profession for myself, so I decided against all odds to form Schudio Sound LLC.
Around the same time, I offered my services to the new owners of The Fox Theatre in Hays, KS. On a handshake deal, we put the venue on the map as a legitimate tour stop, and in only 4 months were seeing consistent sellouts of 800+ people. I was a familiar face to most of the tours that came through from my previous work in live sound, which solidified mine and my company's reputation with industry professionals across the industry.
